Learn what MCV measures and how it fits into your health data.

What is MCV?

Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) measures the average size (volume) of red blood cells. It is crucial for classifying anemia: low MCV (<80 fL) indicates microcytic anemia (e.g., iron deficiency, thalassemia), normal MCV (80-100 fL) indicates normocytic anemia (e.g., chronic disease, acute blood loss), and high MCV (>100 fL) indicates macrocytic anemia (e.g., B12/folate deficiency, liver disease, alcohol excess).
