Chlamydia/Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Overview:
Chlamydia trachomatis
Chlamydia trachomatis RNA detection test identifies the presence of C. trachomatis, the bacterium that causes chlamydia infections. This is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection in the United States. A "not detected" result is normal. "Detected" results indicate active chlamydia infection requiring antibiotic treatment. This nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) is highly sensitive and specific for diagnosing chlamydia.
Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Neisseria gonorrhoeae RNA detection test identifies the presence of N. gonorrhoeae, the bacterium that causes gonorrhea (also called GC). A "not detected" result is normal. "Detected" results indicate active gonorrhea infection requiring antibiotic treatment. This nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) is the gold standard for diagnosing gonorrhea and is more sensitive than culture methods.
