What is Vitamin K1?

Vitamin K1 (Phylloquinone) is a fat-soluble vitamin obtained primarily from leafy green vegetables. It is essential for the synthesis of clotting factors in the liver, required for normal blood coagulation. It also plays a role in bone health (activating osteocalcin). While overt deficiency leading to bleeding is rare in adults, suboptimal intake may affect bone metabolism. Vitamin K status is crucial for patients on warfarin therapy. Measurement is not common unless specific deficiency is suspected.
