Learn what UIBC measures and how it fits into your health data.
What is UIBC?
Unsaturated Iron Binding Capacity (UIBC) measures the portion of transferrin that is not currently carrying iron, representing the "reserve" binding capacity. UIBC = TIBC - Serum Iron. High UIBC indicates more available binding sites, typical of iron deficiency. Low UIBC suggests transferrin is highly saturated with iron, seen in iron overload.
