What is LP-IR Score?

Lipoprotein Insulin Resistance (LP-IR) Score is a specific score calculated from lipoprotein subfractions measured by NMR spectroscopy (e.g., VLDL, LDL, HDL particle sizes and concentrations). It reflects the characteristic dyslipidemia associated with insulin resistance (e.g., high small VLDL/LDL, low large HDL). Higher scores correlate strongly with insulin resistance and increased risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Lower scores (<25) are optimal.
