What is Serum Amyloid A?

Serum Amyloid A (SAA) is an acute-phase reactant protein that rises dramatically during inflammation, infection, and tissue injury. It is a highly sensitive marker of inflammation, often increasing before CRP. Chronically elevated SAA is associated with inflammatory diseases and cardiovascular risk. Lower levels indicate reduced inflammatory burden.
