What is EPA?
Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) is a long-chain omega-3 fatty acid known for its potent anti-inflammatory effects and benefits for cardiovascular health (e.g., lowering triglycerides, reducing blood clotting). It competes with arachidonic acid (AA) for enzymes, shifting eicosanoid production towards less inflammatory types. Obtained from fatty fish or synthesized inefficiently from ALA. Assessed as part of Omega-3 Index.
