What is Arachidonic Acid?

Arachidonic Acid (AA, 20:4n-6) is an omega-6 fatty acid derived from linoleic acid or obtained directly from animal products. It is a precursor to various signaling molecules, including pro-inflammatory eicosanoids (prostaglandins, leukotrienes). While essential, excessive levels relative to EPA can contribute to a pro-inflammatory state. Measured as a percentage of total fatty acids.
