What is Waist Circumference?

Waist circumference is a measure of abdominal fat distribution and it is a strong predictor of metabolic complications. Both a high waist circumference and an unusually low one (which can reflect being underweight) fall outside the healthy range. It is best to interpret waist circumference in conjunction with height. See waist-to-height ratio for more info.
