What is Urea?

Blood Urea measures the concentration of urea in the blood, often reported alongside BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen). Urea is the main nitrogenous waste product of protein metabolism. Levels reflect kidney function, protein intake, and hydration status, similar to BUN. (Note: Urea (mg/dL) = BUN (mg/dL) / 0.467). Often interpreted alongside creatinine (BUN/Creatinine ratio).
