What is Troponin I (High Sensitivity)?
High-sensitivity Troponin I (hs-TnI) is a cardiac-specific protein released into the blood when heart muscle cells are damaged. It is the gold standard biomarker for diagnosing acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Elevated levels indicate myocardial injury, which can also occur in heart failure, myocarditis, pulmonary embolism, or renal failure. Serial measurements showing a rise-and-fall pattern are characteristic of acute MI.
