Learn what Respiratory Rate measures and how it fits into your health data.
What is Respiratory Rate?
Respiratory Rate measures the number of breaths per minute. It is a vital sign that reflects pulmonary function and metabolic demand. Normal adult respiratory rate at rest is 12-18 breaths/min. Elevated respiratory rate can indicate respiratory distress, fever, metabolic acidosis, or anxiety. Low respiratory rate may suggest CNS depression or hypothyroidism.
