What is Mean Arterial Pressure?

Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) is the average arterial pressure throughout one cardiac cycle, calculated as (SBP + 2×DBP)/3. MAP is considered a better indicator of tissue perfusion than systolic or diastolic pressure alone. A MAP of at least 60 mmHg is needed to perfuse vital organs. Values above 100 mmHg may indicate hypertension.
