What is Immunoglobulin G Subclass 2?

IgG2 (~20-30% of total IgG) is key for responding to polysaccharide antigens from encapsulated bacteria (e.g., Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae). Levels mature slowly in children. Deficiency is linked to recurrent infections by these bacteria and poor response to polysaccharide vaccines.
