What is Heart Rate?

Resting Heart Rate (RHR) measures the number of heartbeats per minute while at rest. It is a fundamental vital sign reflecting cardiovascular fitness and autonomic nervous system function. Lower resting heart rates generally indicate better cardiovascular fitness. Elevated resting heart rate (tachycardia >100 bpm) can indicate stress, dehydration, anemia, thyroid issues, or heart conditions. Very low rates (bradycardia <60 bpm) may be normal in athletes or indicate conduction problems.
