Learn what Adiponectin measures and how it fits into your health data.

What is Adiponectin?

Adiponectin is a hormone secreted by fat cells (adipocytes) that enhances insulin sensitivity and has anti-inflammatory and anti-atherogenic effects. Paradoxically, levels are often lower in individuals with obesity and insulin resistance. Higher adiponectin levels are generally associated with better metabolic health and lower risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
